Which Travel Trailer Is Right For Me?

Trying to find the right RV or travel trailer can be every bit as challenging as trying to decide which car to buy, or, where to go camping next! In order to help identify which travel trailer is best for your individual camping/traveling needs, here are a few points to consider when trying to identify which travel trailer to purchase.

Tow Or Drive

The first thing to consider when identifying which travel trailer is right for you is to decide whether you are planning to tow your RV, or if you want to drive it (and possibly tow a car behind). While each has their perks, the first decision you want to make when choosing your RV is whether you are towing or driving. A lot of this decision comes down to 2 factors - the overall cost of the RV/trailer, and whether or not you have a tow vehicle already for a camp trailer.

Vehicle Type

If you choose the trailer option, the next step is to identify which type of tow vehicle you either have or plan on purchasing for towing your new travel trailer. Towing vehicles are typically broken down into three categories: heavy-duty truck, lightweight truck, and SUV. Each individual vehicle in these categories has its own towing capacity, but a lightweight truck and SUV will tow substantially less than a heavy-duty truck will.

How Many People

The next step in identifying which travel trailer or RV is right for you is knowing how many people you plan to travel with - specifically, how many people will be sleeping in the RV/trailer, as there can be a limited number of beds. Ensuring you have a comfortable spot for everyone to sleep is a must!

Trailer/RV Type

This step in identifying which travel trailer or RV is right for you is to pick the trailer/RV type. For trailers, there are four typical choices: toy haulers, travel trailers, fifth wheels, or lightweight camp trailers. For RVs (motorhomes), there are also four typical options: toy hauler, class C motorhome, class B motorhome, and Class A - each class being larger than the next.

Floorplan

The final step in choosing which travel trailer or motorhome is right for you is to pick the floorplan that best fits your needs. There are a surprisingly large amount of floorplans available for each type and size of RV/trailer. Some have slide-outs, others have bunk beds, while some have two bathrooms.

With all of these questions answered, you should have a better understanding and idea of what type and size of travel trailer or motorhome you need for your travel adventure. Check out your local RV dealerships for more information as well as the chance to step inside a variety of RVs. Happy trailer shopping!
