Tensile strength of chain is measured two different ways. Here's the official specs with both tensile numbers: 

•     3/8" zinc-plated chain
•     Grade 30 commercial
•     2650 lbs minimum working load (sometimes called tensile strength) –with 4x breaking strength
•     Minimum tensile of 55,000 p.s.i.
